UNP working committee meeting ends without decision on symbol

The UNP working committee meeting ended yesterday without a decision on the symbol to be used by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) when contesting the upcoming general election but unanimously approved the alliance constitution subject to some amendments.    

“The UNP working approved the constitution of the new alliance led by Sajith Premadasa. However the party seniors will meet on Sunday evening to decide on the symbol,” UNP Senior Vice President and MP Lakshman Kiriella said.   


He said UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe will participate at the launch of the SJB on Monday March 2, 2020.   


SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara also confirmed that the alliance constitution was approved by the working committee subject to minor amendments.   
“Matters connected to the symbol will also be sorted out soon” he said..
