The 122 parliamentarians yesterday withdrew their petition of quo warranto filed in the Court of Appeal against Mahinda Rajapaksa and 48 others on the basis that they had obtained the relief they had sought.
The matter came up before Justice Arjuna Obeysekera.
The writ petition was filed by 122 MPs belonging to several political parties disputing the holding of office by Mahinda Rajapaksa and 48 others and seeking that they be restrained from functioning in the office of prime minister, Cabinet ministers, non-Cabinet ministers and deputy ministers respectively.
K. Kanag Iswaran PC with Ikram Mohammad PC, A.M. Faiz, Viran Corea and Suren Fernando appeared for the petitioners while Gamini Marapana PC with Navin Marapana and Romesh de Silva PC, Manohara de Silva PC, Sanjeeva Jayawardena PC, Ali Sabry PC and Shaveendra Fernando PC appeared for the respondents.
The petition was filed by Ranil Wickremesinghe and 122 other MPs.
