Nearly 500 personnel from the three armed forces and their close contacts were among those tested positive for COVID-19 in the country. According to the Epidemiology unit of the Health Ministry, 454 naval personnel, 34 of their close contacts and 11 other members of the Army and the Air Force were among 893 COVID-19 patients reported in Sri Lanka as of Wednesday.
The Department said 216 patients were undergoing medical treatment at the Navy Hospital, while others were admitted to six hospitals across the country. Meanwhile, the Navy said a total of 62 naval personnel have been recovered and discharged from hospitals as of Wednesday.
Further, these discharged naval personnel were directed to be kept under quarantine for another 14 days following health instructions, the Navy said.
