A team of the Federal Investigation Bureau (FBI) of the United States is already on the ground in Sri Lanka to conduct investigations into the serial bombings on Easter Sunday, a spokesman said yesterday.
The FBI is an intelligence-driven and threat-focused national security organization with both intelligence and law enforcement responsibilities.
A spokesman for the US embassy in Colombo told Daily Mirror the FBI members were already in Sri Lanka working with the Sri Lankan authorities to find out who carried out the attacks. He said the team arrived in the country on Tuesday.
Asked about future cooperation, he said there was direct contact between the two sides in this regard. He said once present investigations were over, the two sides would look at future cooperation.
The FBI has divided its investigations into programs, such as domestic and international terrorism, foreign counter intelligence and cybercrime. However, its prime responsibility is to protect the American people and to uphold the constitution.
