The Catholic Bishops’ Conference in Sri Lanka appealed that the Attorney General be given full power and the freedom to prosecute immediately the perpetrators, those who aided and abetted in the dastardly terrorist act and those who were found to be negligent in carrying their duties.
In a statement, it urged that the judicial mechanism be set in motion with immediate effect.
“We have been made to understand that 22 sensitive documents have been withheld from the Attorney General, and we feel that these documents should be given to him as soon as possible,” it stressed.
“We are all waiting for the immediate and transparent process of justice which is to be carried out with a sense of urgency. In the name of truth and justice and for the sake of peace and security of all people in our dear country, we urge all concerned to act without delay on this crucial matter,” it added.
