All post offices will be opened on May 4 for regular postal operations, Postmaster General Ranjith Ariyaratne announced yesterday.
The public life was gradually coming to normal at the 21 districts where the curfew had been lifted for 15 hours from 5.00 am to 8.00 pm yesterday and the people were seen gathering at retail outlets, grocery stores, pharmacies and other supermarkets with the Police, MOH, PHI officials and armed forces keeping a watchful eye on those who ignore health advisories.
However, there were no convergence of the public in large numbers in towns and shops as the Police and Army personnel allowed people according to the NIC digit rules. The government has relaxed Curfew regulations to restore normalcy in civilian life, except the Western Province and Puttalam District.
Meanwhile, DIG Ajith Rohana said in the 24 hour ended at 6.00 am yesterday, 554 men and women were arrested with 159 vehicles apprehended for violating curfew. Overall, 41,557 individuals and 10,719 vehicles had been taken in since March 20 to April 29, 2020.
