A 29-year-old young man died of gunshot injuries when his muzzle loader gun went off in his attempt to show his wife how to pull the trigger with his big toe.
The injured child who had been admitted to Passara hospital and transferred to Badulla General Hospital was to undergo urgent surgery last morning.
The deceased Dissanayake Mudiyanselage Sunil Disanayake (29) was a resident of Bibilegama in Passara. He had been under the influence of liquor at the time of the incident and had held the gun with its barrel upwards and pulled the trigger with his toe. Badulla Magistrate Chaminda Karunadasa who held the preliminary magisterial inquiry at the hospital ordered the JMO to hold the postmortem of the deceased.
OIC Passara Police IP Palitha Seneviratne and OIC Crime Branch CI Priyantha Chaminda are conducting further investigations on the instructions of ASP Buddhika Gunasekara and SSP Wasanha Kandewatta.
