Veteran seamer Lasith Malinga has been appointed T20 captain for the three-match series against New Zealand but the 15-man got no place for veterans Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera and Dinesh Chandimal in the side. Though Perera’s and Chandimal’s exclusions are expected, the omission of Mathews surprised many given his recent form in the limited over format.

While Avishka Fernando, Danushka Gunathilaka, Lahiru Kumara come back to the side, the selectors have brought in uncapped all-rounder Wanindu Harasanga and Lahiru Madushanka into the side. Niroshan Dickwella has been appointed as the vice-captain of the side. Sri Lanka will play New Zealand  on 1st, 3rd and 6th September at Pallekele Cricket stadium.

The Squad
Lasith Malinga – Captain, Niroshan Dickwella – Vice Captain, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Janith Perera, Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, Shehan Jayasuriya, Dasun Shanaka
Wanindu Hasaranga, Akila Dananjaya, Lakshan Sandakan, Isuru Udana, Kasun Rajitha, Lahiru Kumara, Lahiru Madushanka
