These are trying times for all of us due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions imposed to curb the virus in the country. Many people were seen withdrawing cash from ATMs across the country to pay for the essential items and services. Seen here is an ATM cubicle at Mount Lavinia filled with receipts drawn out by the customers. Not only opting for receipts cost a few rupees it also considered non-eco-friendly. That's a commercial bank atm if I'm not mistaken. Their atm machines do not give the option of not opting for receipts for cards used from third-party banks. Only com bank users can do so. So once other card holders withdraw the money, the machine generates the receipt in a few seconds automatically. Hence why I only go to them as a last resort.

When you withdraw CASH via Credit Card, there's a Special Charge, usually. At this time when vegetable lorries are distributing items to the doorstep, we need Cash as the mobile-seller does not have the facility to swipe the Credit Card. Therefore, we are compelled to withdraw Cash from ATMs whereas usually we paid for purchases by Credit Card. It is up to Central Bank or any other authority to request Banks to treat Cash Withdrawals from ATMs as normal payments/purchases by Credit Cards AND Not Charge Sprecial Cash Withdrawal Fee upto at least the next three to four months.
