Mobitel mulls strategic acquisition

Mobitel (Private) Ltd, the mobile arm of state-controlled Sri Lanka Telecom PLC said it was considering a “strategic acquisition” of a “local operator” to enhance its market position and asset base.

Mobitel noted that the said strategic acquisition would be carried out following the due process required to be complied for such a transaction contrary to certain media reports.

“Mobitel denies the assumptions and opinions made on the subject that Mobitel is intending a payment which is over and above the value of the target entity,” a Mobitel statement noted.

The company also said no finality had been reached on such an acquisition.
