I know for a fact that in Thailand, people actually practice Buddhism a LOT more than Sri Lankans do. Sri Lankans living in SL and abroad wear a "Buddhism" label like a badge of honour, but hardly ever practice what we preach. Contradicting all of Buddha's teachings, the so called Buddhists of SL use this 'label' as a weapon. The Thai people on the other hand, actually promote every male to be ordained for a few years of their life so each of them actually considers following the Buddha's way in a true and practical manner. Not just the 'boru show' most Lankans do, with their giant Vesak Koodu and Pirith Nool as decoration, without actually following the philosophy. If we can have some positive influence from Thailand in this respect, that would be wonderful.
