If this is true, its is a very good move. Shanty ares occupied majority of Colombo valuable lands and it's not the optimal way of utilize landa in an island.

If we are to progress the City of Colombo should be cleared of all slum dwellers. They could be housed in the outer areas. The land within Colombo is very valuable for development as a modern city.

Mr. Samaraweera, the Colombo city should be developed to become a modern city and it should not be an another Calcutta. So that the Slums should be removed and relocated to suitable periphery. Please note that most elite Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims in Colombo city has been not voted for Government and in future also that position would remain unchanged. However it is my opinion also the slums should be removed and the relocation cost should be recovered by selling the valuable land they occupied. This is a World Bank recommended model of urban development. Nothing new. Please don`t mix politics and city development.
