Six drown in three places in 24 hrs

At least six drowned including an 8-year-old child when they were bathing in three separate incidents at the Kilinochchi, Bandarawela and Mawanella yesterday.

In Kilinochchi, three youths including two women of the same family and a child drowned while they were bathing at the Kandankulam Lake at Selvanagar.

Police said they were identified as ages 8, 16 and 17 and residents of Selvanagar.

In another incident in Bandarawela, a 24 year-old youth drowned while bathing at the Mathatilla Oya with his friends, the Police said.

Meanwhile, a two teenage boys aged 13 and 16 drowned while bathing at Ma Oya in Ussapitiya, Mawanella.

Police identified the victims as residents of Aranayaka.(DS)

    for such matters we do not need disaster management or the UNO! we need to teach the children to swim. SL is an island nation but ashamingly very few can swim at all. May be we should introduce swimming in the sport classes like most of the countries do it.
