The manager and the eight women who were remanded on charges of having operated a brothel under the guise of a massage parlour at Sellamuttu Avenue in Kollupitiya were given bail by a Colombo Court yesterday.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne said close relatives of the suspects should sign the sureties and as such their sureties were signed by their parents, husbands or siblings after a thorough examination of the relevant documents.

The Magistrate observed that the sureties must look after the suspects as they were legally bound to do so and advised the suspects to desist from committing any offence and warned that he would take severe action should they be found repeating the offence.

The police decoy was reported to have had to pay Rs.2,000 to procurer a woman. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

The country is broiling with trouble due to cost of living and petrol hike, these bloody jokers are raiding brothels... Go and catch the real culprits

If you cannot provide proper employment for women, legalize the oldest profession . When u go to Middle east you come back in coffins. This govt is doing nothing to improve the living conditions of the people. Country is meant only for the rich and affluent, liquor and drug barons and the corrupt.

Why is that corrupt politicians are not jailed? Right to engage in prostitution is each person's right!

You can't stop this. Like Singapore, legalize, monitor, control and tax them.

Taxing prostitution, are you kidding? It is better to leave it if the women are overaged lest the cream of youth will be spoiled. Majority at 18, sex edu. safe sex free contraceptives etc. are promoting brothels while taxing may justify it, I'm afraid!

Why to the Police waste court time and money on these victimless crimes? What a waste of resources that could be put to good use to stop robberies, rapes etc.

Whats the problem, laws should change. Morality cannot be legislated . Two consenting adultss hould be allowed to do whatever they want for money or otherwise. This is like religious police in Saudi Arabia.

LOLz. Sri Lanka police is becoming like Indian police. The Police needs to face the facts about the worlds oldest profession.
