Colombo, Oct 4 – At least five people were killed by lightning and many were missing due to floods triggered by torrential rains in different parts of Sri Lanka, officials said.

Pradeep Kodippily, national co-ordinator of the disaster management centre said five people were killed by lightning in Moneragala, Gampaha and Ratnapura districts during the weekend.

The island has been experiencing heavy rains since Friday, Xinhua reported.

Kodippily said Badulla district’s main highway between Badulla and Haputale was closed Sunday following landslides. Several roads in Galle district were also blocked due to floods, officials said.

Hey People, do not use this news to argue on your political desires. This is a natural disaster and your fellow countrymen are in trouble. It is sorry to see that not a single word supporting people who lost homes and loved ones. If this is your mentality, what is the difference between you and all those (as you said, corrupted) politicians?
