if they have attested their marriage certificate in Sri Lanka consulate in UAE they wouldnt have face this problem... lankan consulate in UAE is very helpful .... our people should learn the processes before going ahead with these kind of activities .

This is ridiculous. How can they say the Certificate of Marriage signed by the Registrar is insufficient? Why did they move to an Arab country with the family?

Its true that parents have to 'disclose' their relationship when a new born is issued a birth certificate, but they do not need to be married for this.
If the law of the resident country calls for marraige before birth, they need to abide by it, but its outrageous to arrest a legally married couple for having a child!!!! The blame definitely lies with the stupid court that did not care to get a translated version for the hearing.

I blame the couple for not informing the agents and the foreign employment properly. They don't accept Sri Lankan marriage certificate as its in Sinhala. You need a translated copy with proper seals.

There is something wrong...i cant believe our fellows.. its very easy to prove if they are married and the mean time if they proved that they have already married then they will not question further..

these housemaids runaway and having relationships out of wedlock and when caught always the same story such as abuse, non payment of wages etc..etc but not reporting to the embassy or police in the country for help. they knew they are breaking the law of the land. let them pay for their sins. do not blame the arabs who use sharia laws to oppress the ordinary people.

It's common sense that even in Sri Lanka, parents have to prove their relationship for reg., of new borns. In any overseas country, the certificates should be attested by the Sri Lankan foreign ministry to confirm the authenticity. Don't blame for any one else, for this couple's negligence and stupidity as they have absconding from their empoyer, as per the country's regulations.

that's reticular our traditional wedding are valid and it does not provide/need any legal document , it can be be easily translated by court . unfortunately Sri lankan overseas missions does not care about sri lanknss
