Jayasuriya resigns

Situation at Sri Lanka Cricket fell into further turmoil this morning as Sri Lanka Chief selector Sanath Jayasuriya has resigned with immediate effect from the panel appointed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Executive Committee to pick the next national coach.

Jayasuriya refused to comment on the reasons for his decision, but confirmed that he has sent his letter of resignation by email to SLC President Jayantha Dharmadasa and Secretary Nishantha Ranatunga.

The panel is meeting at SLC today to shortlist three candidates out of nine previously shortlisted applicants, but SLC sources said that Jayasuriya has not attended this meeting. It is not clear if his resignation has been accepted, but Jayasuriya’s absence at today’s meeting indicates that he is unlikely to budge from his position unless conditions change dramatically at SLC.

Sources added that Jayasuriya has been forced to resign due to external pressure not allowing him to carry out his job in a neutral manner in picking the best candidate. (Channaka de Silva)

So he has a backbone !! I thought he was only for money and status at any cost. Or is it that the Uva Elections have frightened him ?

He was reported to be against appointing Marvan as head coach, knowing the politics that will come to cricket if Marvan is appointed with his B' law having so much trouble with senior cricketers namely sanga,Mahela,Malinga,Mathews, and hearath. but since he couldnot tolerate the pressure of that top guy he had to resign. with the appointment of Marvan you will see the end of srilankan cricket as most of the seniors may retire prior to world cup

How about Arjuna Ranatunga to fill thisosition.

    hiranya Tuesday, 23 September 2014 09:57 AM

It was clear that he was against Nishantha, and his pressure to appoint his brothering law Marvan to the post. most of the srilankans donot understand what is going on and they foolishly comment on Marvan asking him to be given the job. they donot understand the politics there. Marvan is just apuppet of nishantha, who has a serious issues with Kumar, Mahela,Malinga .hearath ,and captain as wel. if SLC appoint Marvan that will be the end of world cup. people donot understand this as it is sure either kumar, hearath will retire from cricket, and malinga want participate in the wc. so my Marvan loving friends you can win with few batters whom the marvan has nurtured as the batting coach namely chandimal, kithruwan, thiri , who donot have a place in the present side due to Marvans good coaching.

I don't support his politics but His resignation is bad for our country.. He took good decisions when he was the chief selector for Sri lankan Team.
