India to boycott SLPL again

NEW DELHI: The Indian cricket board (BCCI) has once again 'rejected' Sri Lanka Cricket's (SLC) appeal to let Indian stars play in the inaugural Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL), tentatively scheduled to be held in August.

The BCCI feels that if it allows the players to play in the SLPL, it will have to let them appear in T20 leagues organized by other Test-playing nations. Besides, the Indian team has a cramped itinerary in the coming months - it is likely to travel to Sri Lanka for an ODI and T20 series in July. In August, India will host New Zealand for a two-Test series. "They (SLC) did approach us, but we may not be in a position to send our players," a BCCI official told TOI on Thursday.

SLC is hoping to get those Indian cricketers who won't make it to the national team. But as of now, the Indian board's reluctance has poured cold water on the plan. "BCCI is not convinced. But we are going ahead with the league this time," a SLC official said.

The SLPL was set to be launched last year itself but the non-availability of Indian players stymied the event. Then, the BCCI refused to play ball as it suspected former IPL czar Lalit Modi's hand behind the league. The cricket board mandarins believed that the event management company, which owned the commercial rights of the event, had something to do with Modi. This year, the BCCI hasn't taken much time in responding to SLC's overtures unlike last year which eventually led to cancellation of the event.

More than a month back, BCCI president N Srinivasan was quoted as saying that the board would examine a league's structure before giving Indian players the go-ahead. While he was unavailable for comment on Thursday, the board, it seems, is still not convinced. (Times of India)

    Fayad Friday, 15 June 2012 05:57 AM

Very true , not only for cricket

    Palith Friday, 15 June 2012 06:08 AM

Then what is the logic behind us allowing players to participate in IPL ?

    Kondebandapucheena Friday, 15 June 2012 06:13 AM

Sick and tired of this Bully,

    Mason Friday, 15 June 2012 06:20 AM

'Pol Haraka' has said it all very simply. Let SLC have some pride and our players too, without making ourselves cheap.

buffaloa citizen Friday, 15 June 2012 06:30 AM

When you have dead skeletons in your cupboard, you have to worry that no one sees them. If you have nothing to hide, no need to worry about anybody, not even god.

    kumar Friday, 15 June 2012 06:59 AM

Why are you putting the "friendly" part?

Ravindra fernando Friday, 15 June 2012 07:22 AM

I think we should not paly any knid of sports with these indians

    kumara Friday, 15 June 2012 07:30 AM

    good move India!!

    Jay Friday, 15 June 2012 07:53 AM

u re 100% right. India's rejection is good for SL.

neil john Friday, 15 June 2012 07:49 AM

Simple question! We don't send. They go because of Money.

    Takiya Friday, 15 June 2012 09:07 AM

Exactly. Sri Lanka should not allow Sri Lankan cricketers to play in IPL. However, I don't think Sri Lankan players will be badly missed by the world.

    raj Friday, 15 June 2012 09:56 AM

You must be the one human being who doesn't want money (and women)

    Rohan Friday, 15 June 2012 05:57 AM

Shame on SLC for worshiping BCCI and allowing every BCCI request prior to this. Nishantha Rantunga at SLC went to disgaceful lenthgs at the whims of BCCI. Now they have returned you the favour nicely.

    parak Friday, 15 June 2012 10:14 AM

Try Two20 format in which two batsmen batting all 20 overs while the full opposite team fields. India may not like SLPL since it seems having the same format as IPL.

Lalith Kuruwita Friday, 15 June 2012 10:34 AM

    Money talk.

    Nishantha Friday, 15 June 2012 10:40 AM

Ape Cricket board ekara KONDAK NAAA

    vimukthi Friday, 15 June 2012 10:48 AM

Well done India , SLPL won't bring any benifits to locall players , instead organisers will pocket millons.

    Clifford Friday, 15 June 2012 11:26 AM

This is the problem when you are a follower, why couldnt we think of an Sri Lanka premier Legue before they did. Lets do something diffrerent.

    balla Friday, 15 June 2012 11:24 AM

    What a joke. CARLTON HOOOOOOOOOO

buffaloa citizen Friday, 15 June 2012 01:03 PM

He is a impotent hermit with an internet connection.

    Harsha1 Friday, 15 June 2012 03:26 PM

SLPL should allow 6 foreran players … then our one will be more competitive … not like Indian boring IPL still we can have per match 5 SL players.

    senthil Friday, 15 June 2012 04:56 PM

Abdul, can SLC guarantee payments for 20 years

    sundram Friday, 15 June 2012 05:00 PM

you hit the nail on the head

    Anon69 Friday, 15 June 2012 04:58 PM

Because SLC gets 20% of their Salary.

sir Don Batsman Saturday, 16 June 2012 01:45 PM

Because SriLanka has become a Pariah in the eyes of India.
Yes this is a shame for Lanka & Lankans.

    Fun Friday, 15 June 2012 04:45 AM

Board can decide and not send players to play IPL but what will players do they skip SL tours and will go meet president and cancel the tours .

    kev Friday, 15 June 2012 02:51 AM

good decesion made by india. if lanka can ban indian products, blaming india for silly reasons mean?

    israth Friday, 15 June 2012 03:30 AM

I don't think even in future we are going to stop sending our players.......

    Rukshan Friday, 15 June 2012 03:35 AM

I am also asking same question what Nishantha asked?

    MS Friday, 15 June 2012 04:09 AM

I do not understand why our politicians send our cricketers to IPL????
Anyway our cricketers also do not bother about the dignity of this country... what they want is money & women.

    Manik Friday, 15 June 2012 04:14 AM

This might be a ploy by Indians to block SL players getting experience and money in the IPL. We can always play w/o injuns.

    ind Friday, 15 June 2012 04:06 AM

If they can stop sending them, we too should do the same. As players they too think about it. Money is not the everything !!

    MS Friday, 15 June 2012 04:15 AM

who says.... we import too many things from India compare to what we export to them. Actually we should reduce some more.

    microcricket Friday, 15 June 2012 04:15 AM

BCCI must be wanting SLC to make sure India wins the T20 WC in Sri Lanka later this year. BCCI goons dont take decisions without an ulterior motive.

    Sidhath Friday, 15 June 2012 04:16 AM

COZ OUR BOARD IS NOT PAYING THEIR MATCH FEE

    Kadmin Friday, 15 June 2012 04:18 AM

This is a Deja-vu. It's a good decision to go ahead without Indians. Whole country should support that and stand behind our SLC.

    Anuradha Friday, 15 June 2012 04:21 AM

he he outstanding......."Lejja nethikama mahamudali-kamatath wada lokui".......please send more and more upcoming players to IPL even for the next season.....i have gone out of words......ohhh poor SLC......i have no idea where you guys are going with this !!!

    Nature Friday, 15 June 2012 04:22 AM

Sending our players to IPL can't be stopped. bcz, we'll earn a lot of foreign exchange to SL & our players become more exporsure with world class players which is good for our team. BCCI decision is separate & SLC wouldn't beg them again I hope....

    Podda Friday, 15 June 2012 04:27 AM

IF SLC stop sending our players to IPL, Malinga definitely say ta-taa to sri lankan national team.

    Sammy Friday, 15 June 2012 04:32 AM

Now the SLC should reciprocate and show their discontent at the Indian attitude, by refusing to permit Sri Lankan cricketers take part in the IPL. Alas, money talks!

    Nishantha Friday, 15 June 2012 02:41 AM

Why we are sending our players to IPL?

    anjeewa Friday, 15 June 2012 04:47 AM

If we sanction them players will scrapped the contracts like Malinga trying to do and play IPL. Who is going to pay you 1.8MN US$ (Rs.200Mn) for 6 weeks cricket!!!
But I like BCCI reject SLPL. SLPL is waste of money like Carlton Rugby...

    raj Friday, 15 June 2012 04:52 AM

We are sending our players, so they can earn US$, which will help foreign reserve. By banning players from playing in the IPL, we will be the losers. But by playing the IPL will giving money to us, then they will be the losers.

    M.V.R.Perera Friday, 15 June 2012 04:53 AM

we should ban our players playing in IPL but the money is so attractive they will give up international cricket but we should do it to prevent the younger cricketers from playing in the IPL

    Fusion Friday, 15 June 2012 05:06 AM

Because if they don't the players might quit SLC outright and stick to the IPL. SLC cannot compete with the financial firepower of the IPL.

SL Patriot Friday, 15 June 2012 05:07 AM

v r nt sendin thy wanted 2 go, evn f v try 2 stop thm thy wil go,
bcz its al abt da money.. money.. money..money..

    nirosh Friday, 15 June 2012 05:01 AM

Idiots, who is sending our players? they are going through their own agents.SLC has nothing to do with it.

    Nodrog Friday, 15 June 2012 05:17 AM

Reason is we need India more than they need us so no matter what they do or say to us we still run behind them for their money, their approval, their advise....

    Prsa Friday, 15 June 2012 05:13 AM

Answer simple. India is alwasys putting SL down, sports, political, economical... in all areas with a plan. So When we can get money from India, we have to send players. Remember it is not small amount of foreign currency !!

Not sending players to IPL only results in SL not getting money. IPL will have no impact !! there are enough players to come. So be deplomatic. Dont trust India.

    Abdul Friday, 15 June 2012 05:26 AM

Answer to Nishantha & Rukshan- since the money is big in IPL, if we try to stop players they will stop playing for country & play there. e.g. Malinga, ONLY SOLUTION: When SL players register for a club here, they should sign a 20 Year agreement that they will only play SLC approved matches.

    panda Friday, 15 June 2012 05:31 AM

    That's a right royal snub.

Pol Haraka Friday, 15 June 2012 05:33 AM

we send our players because our players make enough money in 45 days that otherwise they can't make in a life time..
where as if indian players come here they will just make a few bucks by their standards hence its not worth the hasstle tussle..
    simple as A B C

    Dammika Friday, 15 June 2012 05:36 AM

Nothing is working well for us .... that is the reality. All talking with double tongue. Nothing can be successful .... this is the current sad state of this beautiful country and also this beautiful game

    aahaap Friday, 15 June 2012 05:40 AM

Now india is our friendly enemy
