The constituent parties of the government today said it would bring hundreds of thousands of people to Colombo on Monday in support of the government to thwart the US, UK and Canada led attempt to pass a resolution against Sri Lanka at the annual UNHRC sessions in Geneva.

Addressing the weekly cabinet news briefing at the Information Department today, UPFA General Secretary and Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha said the two month long strategy at local and international level will start on Monday and will come to an end with the Sinhala-Hindu New Year celebrations in April.

Minister Premajayantha pointed out that the opposition headed by the UNP and the JVP has launched a “destructive hate campaign” against the government in an attempt to bring the people to the street to support anti Sri Lanka elements. “But it will not be a success as a situation that suits an uprising against the government does not exist in Sri Lanka at the moment,” Minister Premajayantha emphasised.

The launching of 14,900 rural development projects at a cost of one million rupees for each project at Grama Seva Niladari (GS) level will be launched on March 10, to garner support for the government against the local and international anti-Sri Lanka campaigns, Minister Premajayantha said.

On April 5, another programme has been scheduled to select three families from each GS division and design a family empowerment project for each of them by the political leadership of the area, public officials, Samurdhi officers, Agriculture Development Officers and Divisional Secretaries with the assistance of the members of the Divineguma Families.

All local programmes will be carried out under the supervision of Divisional Secretaries and the political leadership of the area, he added.(Sandun A. Jayasekera)

By bringing some people to Colombo and demonstrate in Colombo is foolish. Why not clear the allegations in the proper way, and stand clean ?

    Laksmansingh Saturday, 25 February 2012 11:41 PM

Before bringing hundreds of thousands of people to the capital, it is important to bring down the cost of living. How can people travel without proper food in their stomachs? There are 10 Tamil members of parliament in the Norwegian government,
who supported the terrorist LTTE. Eric Solheim was on the payroll of the LTTE who paid 2 million dollars every year to him, for his support to fulfill the terrorist dream of eelam. The US, Canada, UK, EU, and other countries mainly in the west have been paid by the LTTE with their illegal "blood money" to call for international investigations against a sovereign independent nation"s internal affairs. Their hidden agenda and the bottom line is to get the western nations and doggy media like the BBC and Channel 4 to agitate in their selfish, greedy ambition of creating the LTTE dream for a mono-ethnic eelam after losing their terrorist war.

You bring down the price of petroal, gas and diesel and the cost of living down Mr. Minister. Protests must be held against you. The price of bread has gone up by Rs 5 and you want to protest about Geneva. Just who are you?

    sunanda Friday, 24 February 2012 08:15 AM

Whoever who organize these types of protests are just
idiots. Do they think that US and UN will be scared of
    protests which are held here.

    willows Friday, 24 February 2012 07:44 AM

just a cover up for the recent hikes in essentials, so now our idiotic general public will forget the cost of living and parade in front of galle face???

    aadas Friday, 24 February 2012 06:46 AM

1 Who is going bear the cost to bring the people
2 Can you reduce the Fuel Price

    Proposition Friday, 24 February 2012 06:25 AM

I think this is about the best comment I read on this forum so far. If our people cannot understand this sort of simple logic I don't understand what they will understand !

Again these fellows are wasting public money

    john Friday, 24 February 2012 04:56 AM

Holding a large protest like this in Colombo against the UN , US, UK or whoever is only going to disrupt the lives of people living and working in Colombo.

If we have an argument with a neighbour ,do we throw a rock at our own window ?

    Kangaroo Friday, 24 February 2012 04:43 AM

Dear Sir If you can take me and my family to Geneva I will come and support stay there coz in Srilanka cost of living is so high and I'm finding it so difficult .

    Nodrog Friday, 24 February 2012 04:01 AM

Who can? Name one person in the political arena!

buffaloa citizen Friday, 24 February 2012 03:48 AM

Good idea. After the failed fast onto death in front of the UN and from this demonstration we can find the quantity of ignorant monkeys in this country.

buffaloa citizen Friday, 24 February 2012 03:37 AM

The question is none of them can stand clean.

    Katmai Thursday, 23 February 2012 04:40 PM

Will the police use teargas or water cannons on this protest? Since government demonstrations are much larger than the opposition I bet the police will have to use both teargas and water cannons to disperse the crowds.

    Right?

    Nimal Friday, 24 February 2012 01:57 AM

Is the UN voting in Colombo?

    AMT Friday, 24 February 2012 01:47 AM

How can this help Sri Lanka to clear the war crimes allegations. It is better to have it cleared the proper way acceptable to all.

    bash Friday, 24 February 2012 01:35 AM

Senior Citizen Friday, 24 February 2012 12:29 AM

Another example of the Government's prediliction for outward Show! What a waste of money which could be better utilised for development.

    Nodrog Friday, 24 February 2012 12:31 AM

Good move. This will effectively block roads, create traffic jams, cause inconvenience to the working public and bring down productivity.

    Ranjitdea Thursday, 23 February 2012 11:00 PM

Why not take masses to Geneva with you

    kc Thursday, 23 February 2012 10:32 PM

Why sir? What for? We should rather worry about our family, children and our next meal.

Minnal Sri Thursday, 23 February 2012 07:09 PM

Here we go again. We don't want protest right now. What we need now is to talk to these countries without challenging them.

    Desapriya Thursday, 23 February 2012 06:50 PM

When people protest over unreasonable price hike they were shot unmercifuly

Calistus Jayatilleke Thursday, 23 February 2012 06:06 PM

Of course it is possible to bring any number of people after paying them some money and giving them a packet of food because there are enough people in this country who fall for such bribes.

    alex Thursday, 23 February 2012 05:38 PM

the government was waiting to get hold of something to divert people from real problems, now they got the chance

    Szosz Thursday, 23 February 2012 04:55 PM

This only means country would loose almost a million man hours.

    sltk2004 Thursday, 23 February 2012 04:45 PM

Useless act once again. THis will simply inconvenience the general public. Why don't you get supporters to Geneva instead of Colombo?

    Dayan Thursday, 23 February 2012 04:51 PM
