The main opposition United National Party (UNP) today said the government should reveal the mystery behind the launch of satellite “SupremeSat12 “. Even though the government has been bragging about launching the first Sri Lankan satellite, a lot of suspicion has arisen about this claim, said UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayke.

Head of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) Anusha Palpita had said the Sri Lankan government had no connection with this satellite and this was only a transaction between two companies. But Science and Technology Senior Minister Tissa Witarana had made several statements saying that Sri Lanka was going to launch a satellite owned by the government.

“If this is a transaction between two companies, why is it implied as a government initiative? About USD 360m has reportedly been spent on this project. What is the government’s connection with Supreme Sat to help them obtain such a big amount of money from China?” UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake asked.

“As citizens of this country we have a right to know the conditions of this contract. The future generation has been mortgaged to China through this transaction, which is not at all transparent, he added.”(Ajith Siriwardana)

This is not a government project. So why should government clarify ?? It can be used in the future at lesser price as it is a joint venture of two Sri Lankan and Chinese companies.
