UNP Puttalam District candidate and former MP Palitha Range Bandara, who contested at the 2010 General Elections, was assaulted in Chilaw this evening and has been admitted to hospital. Five people have been arrested over the incident, Police spokesman S.P Jayakody told Daily Mirror online.
The police spokesman further said that among those arrested was a UNP member and said the clash was part of intra-party rivalry. He also said that Range Bandara was transfered to the Colombo National hospital from Chilaw for further treatment. He was believed to be in critical condition. (ER)

To say that he was attacked by a fellow UNPer after the elections is utter rubbish. Mr Ranga Bandara was always subjected to attacks, all of which were from the UPFA.

It's very sad, that there is rivalry within the parties, besides the obvious rivalries between parties. Hope Hon. Ranga will get well soon.

this is how the UNPers behave even when in the opposition, God help us if ever they get power...........it would have been worse than SF's plan that misfired

is this indicative of the running out of patience within the UNP supporter base ? Still, it is deplorable.

Intra-party or extra-party, that is not the question. This violence must be ground to a halt. Sri Lanka Police, this is your duty.

For once JVP and UNP were unable to twist the story to blame the government. How the media and the oppostion was trying to twist the storey on the disturbance took place at Sirasa was a good example.
