In Jan 26, 1788 two British ships entered Port Jakson from Botany Bay. They saw a fine harbour. Surgeon - General, John white declared it to be the finest and most extensive harbour in the universe. He said Tincomalee at Ceylon, acknowledge as one of the world's best harbours, could not be compared with it.
