“Whenever there is injustice caused to the general public by the actions of an individual, I have no bias whether it involves party, opposition, Sinhalese, Tamils or Muslims, I stand up for the people to safeguard their interests,” Minister Mervyn Silva said.

The minister made this comment today when he made an observation visit to the piggery located at Ullalapola Athiliyawatte, in Divulapitiya Ranchapola.

The minister made this unannounced visit to the piggery after he received a complaint that the piggery established in this village had created many issues.

Mr. Silva continuing said he was not in favour of the slaughtering of animals in any form and for any purpose, and he spearheaded the banning of animals being killed for offerings in Kovils. Kali Amma had never wanted animals sacrificed in this manner, but those responsible had been doing it just to eat mutton and earn an income.

However there is no issue in people rearing cattle, he added.

all ministers are fighting in parliment to have beef pork for lunch, and they want to stop slaughter what a joke

    leela Wednesday, 12 December 2012 12:04 AM

Whatever the way people try to describe him at least he has sympathy and compassion towards these innocent animals.

So learn to admire his good acts. I fully support his view that animals must not be subjected to cruelty. The same way we don't like to be killed. In the name of various relegions, what comes forward nothing but greed. People who engage in cruelty acts indeed will face the consequences

    Dhammaloka Wednesday, 12 December 2012 05:15 AM

    I agree with you fully.

The ministers thoughts are good, but how he tries to implement is wrong. Just closing down the way side meat stalls, that are taken after paying a tender fee is wrong. By this act the poor mans cost of living sky rockets, Cos he has to by them at super markets at absorbitent prices, Because he can never put a stop to the sales of meat at any of the super markets.

    Fayad Wednesday, 12 December 2012 06:33 AM
