Sun, 03 Dec 2023 Today's Paper
Responding to the media reports published recently that the SriLankan Airlines was adding brand new A320 Neo aircraft to its fleet, the Airline today stated that these aircraft were ordered by the former management of the SriLankan Airlines under the previous Government.
“What we are doing here is dealing with the aircraft orders placed by the previous management. In that process we have managed to save money by either terminating some of the orders or by selectively adding to the fleet appropriate aircraft based on the airlines’ requirements,” the airline said in a statement.
Accordingly, the airline has already terminated the leases on four A350 aircraft and is currently negotiating with the Airbus on the status of four more similar aircraft scheduled for delivery from 2020 onwards.

$170m payable for cancelling the order of the previous government. Why not save money by change the products of that order to A320s instead of cancelling? Can't understand the logic here. Cancelling, yes fine-able. But amending the order may not be? What is going on ?

When unsuitable people are to run an airline, they act like headless chicken

They can't change the products. Already A320s also have been ordered. If we change now there will be more A320s, which is more than the requirements.

Hey SL can't run a profitable airline!!!?? For that matter most countries unable to run a profitable Airline!!?? What SL Govt should do is allow other airlines to carry the load in and out charge Landing fees more than the usual !!!?? And make other services available for any airline coming to SL like catering and maintenance of jets etc. !!!??

Just travelled in 2 SL to Mumbai n chennai -Colombo. The leg space was approximately 9 and hardly enough arms space. Unable to move legs nor eat comfortably. served with coffee but when a sweetener was requested from male steward on UL 126 on return from Chennai although he promised he never brought it. A kind stewardess later brought it for me but my coffee had gone cold. Unlike earlier days the food served is putrid Indian Airlines now serve better meals more spacious n hospitality much better. The Administrators should send decoys now n then n see for themselves the plight of the passengers I have decided not to fly UL again n spoken to my friends n they have also decided not to patronise unless absolutely unavoidable via DM Android App

If you are flying to any South Asian country this is what they provide. Flights to other destinations by Sri Lankan are far better

Hey Jude! Closing the airline is not the solution. When it was under the chairmanshiof Harry Jayawardena they were doing extremely. The present management is useless
