President Maitripala Sirisena yesterday briefed the Cabinet on his controversial remarks and stressed that he should be apprised prior to the arrest of military personnel, Daily Mirror learns.

He said he was never opposed to investigations being carried out.

The Cabinet met for the first time yesterday after the President remarked that the Bribery Commission, the FCID and the CID had been politicized.

It shook the Government with the ministers seeking prompt remedial measures to prevent any negative fallout.

He said as Commander in Chief and the Defence Minister he should be notified prior to security forces personnel being arrested. (Kelum Bandara)

Not to 'Stop Action" but at least he will be in the loop of the actions taken to arrest and will have answers when questioned at any give time.

Why President should be informed before arresting forces personal? If they killed innocent church worshipers? If they killed villagers shouldn't they be punished?

Well, The retired Admirals were asked to meet the commission regarding a very questionable private business deal which was detrimental to national security!!! Moreover, Admirals actions deprived revenue for the state!!!?? The commissions are independent body's, therefore, they don't need permission from anyone to conduct their affairs!!!

ANY GOVT.OFFICIAL WHO IS HOLDING HIGH OR LOW SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE IF HE OR SHE WAS INVOLVED IN BRIBERY AND CORRUPTION OR MURDER. THE COURT THE PLACE WHICH FIND OUT THE TRUTH. THE CID THE FCID AND BC DONT HAVE ANY RIGHT TO ANYBODY. WHAT BC HAS DONE IS PERFECTLY CORRECT via DM Android App

If he not opposed to investigations, then the arrest of any armed forces person is due to a culmination of an investigation. If the President is to be informed b4 such a arrest, then it is clear that he is directly interfering in the activities of law and order and influencing the independent commissions from performing their duties with independence.

These were not serving officers of the Forces and now private citizens. Anyway what difference does it make if you know - ask them to flee the country before arrest? How about your Secretariat - will they tip culprits off.

People feel they have been double crossed when he made that speech. Nobody wants any innocents to be prosecuted. If he feel that the investigations are politicized, he could have rectified it easily without making a big spectacle out of it. After all he is the President. But, the justice and the system must be equal to all the citizens. This includes all the politicians and armed forces personnel. Real heros do not rob the motherland. The public who voted for him expect him to act like a president and not to appease the rouges and thieves who had jumped into the band wagon to save their hides.

AND ...... FINALLY , HE SEEMS TO HAVE REALIZED THAT HE IS THE EXECUTIVE PRESIDENT OF DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF SRILANKA

    ali Wednesday, 19 October 2016 08:10 AM

How can you come to a conclusion that BC, FCID and CID are politicized just because you not being informed? And why not give an order if that concerns you as a defense minister, instead of making big mockery out of such a despicable speech? Finally, you agree that you delivered such a speech as a Defense Minister, and not as a responsible president.

    Dee Wednesday, 19 October 2016 08:05 AM

Where were you when real officers were dragged to custody? Now atleast cardbord officers are taken in for the crimes committed.

The President of Sri Lanka have clearly proved that all these questioning is as per their will and of course revenge taking. The prime minister of sri lanka advise whom to be taken to custody or questioning as instructed by his fellow ministers. The moment this govt is evicted the president and the prime minister will pay for their sins who has acted without any procedure but at their own will

    Hiran Wednesday, 19 October 2016 08:03 AM

FCID, CID, Bribery commission must be independent entities and these institutions should be able to go on their business without any political pressure. What is the objective of letting you know? If these institutions engage in some substandard practices that contravene the law, that brings injustice, those who have been subject to such injustice could seek redress from court of law. All these institutions are subjected to be sued by any person. We have a strong feeling that you work overtime with Dudely Sirisena to stop Gotabaya being arrested. This is what we called hypocritic Yahapalana.

    B S Perera Wednesday, 19 October 2016 07:20 AM

OK. You are informed. Then what are you going to do? Stop action?

    BUSHEL Wednesday, 19 October 2016 07:10 AM

What ever the commission is as chief of defense of the country they are bound to brief the president. YESS SIR YOU HAVE A BACK BONE

    Chryshan K Wednesday, 19 October 2016 07:05 AM

Ok now you made it politicised by ordering you should be Informed prior to arrest the wrongdoers.

    Premalal Wednesday, 19 October 2016 06:58 AM

Why didn't you just say so without shouting at the market place? It would have given dignity to the position you hold. Reality appears to dawn on you after shooting from the lip.
