Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today assured that daily wage of Rs.1,000 would be given to the estate workers from March 1 as proposed by the government.
He told Parliament that plantation companies had agreed to implement the proposal of the government to increase the daily wage of estate workers.
The Premier said this in response to a question raised by JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake whether Rs.1,000 daily wage would be given to estate workers as proposed.
The Premier Rajapaksa said a Cabinet decision had been taken on January 14 to increase the daily wage to Rs. 1,000. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

While I appreciate the PM idea can the PM explain where the money is coming from. Is it from the Rajapakses tsunami fund?

What is this Cabinet decision of estate workers' daily wages the PM is talking? All expenditure is held by relevant Plantation Companies and not by the government.
