The prison officers at the female ward of the Welikada Prison have thwarted an attempt to smuggle mobile phones, phone batteries and SIM cards through the drain, an official said.
Prison spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said that female officers of the prison female ward recovered the parcel wrapped in cloth in the drain near a building of the Welikada Prison.
The seized parcel contained 10 mobile phones,14 cell phone batteries, 11 mobile phone SIMs and a mobile phone charger.
The seized material has been handed over to the Borella Police for further investigation.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
