Four suspects were arrested with 300kg of Kerala cannabis by the Navy during a patrol conducted in the seas off Punkudutivu in Jaffna today.
Navy said as part of the its regular patrols in island’s territorial waters, the Navy spotted a suspicious dinghy, while patrolling in the seas off Punkudutivu in Jaffna and recovered about 300kg of Kerala cannabis concealed in the dinghy.
The two suspects aboard the dinghy were arrested along with the cannabis.
Navy said that based on information given by the first two suspects they arrested two more drug smugglers in Sangupiddi, Jaffna.
The apprehended stock of Kerala cannabis would be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau in Jaffna for onward investigation.
The Navy said they are conducting regular operations to curb drugs being smuggled to the country via sea routes and this consignment of Kerala cannabis was seized as a result of the constant vigil of the Navy.(DSB)
