A suspect had been arrested with Sri Lankan counterfeit currency notes valued over half million during a raid at Peragas Junction on the Biyagama Road.
The police said the Organised Crimes Division officers arrested the suspect on possession of 38 counterfeit notes of Rs. 5,000, 300 counterfeit notes of Rs. 1,000 and 165 counterfeit notes of Rs. 500.
The 40-year-old suspect, a resident of Pradeepagama in Malwana was identified as Abdul Khadar Neina Mohammed.
He was produced in the Mahara Magistrate's Court.(DS)

I just handled a new one rupee, two rupee and five rupee coin. The are small and lighter that the one cent, two cent and the five cent coins which I used in the 60s. The paper may be worth more than the face value of these counterfeit notes.
