A proposal made by President Maithripala Sirisena to declare the Tripitaka as a World Heritage was approved by the Cabinet today.
The President's Media Division said the approved proposal would be later presented in parliament seeking approval.
The Tripitaka was declared a National Heritage at the historic Aluviharaya in Matale under the aegis of President Sirisena on January 5.
