Joseph Vaz SC Wennappuwa and SL Navy SC emerged men’s and women’s champions respectively at the Galaxy Cup Under-25 Super League Volleyball Championship.
The finals of this tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB) was held at the NYSC Indoor Stadium in Maharagama.
Eight men’s and 10 women’s teams took part in this invitation tournament.
A Chinese company based in Sri Lanka, Baosheng Lanka Investment Holding Pvt. Ltd., sponsored the competition awarding prize money of Rs. 1 million to both the men’s and women’s champions. This is the highest prize money offered for a tournament in the history of volleyball in Sri Lanka.
Joseph Vaz defeated Ceylon Electricity Board 3-2 (20-25, 25-22, 25-19, 23-25, 6-14) in the men’s final.
SL Navy beat Hirdramani SC 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-10, 25-23) in the women’s final.
W.T. Chamath Dilshan of Joseph Vaz SC and Kavisha Lakshani Perera of Navy received awards for the Most Valuable men’s and women’s player of the tournament.
The third place play-off was won by SL Army (men’s) and Mahusweva SC (women’s).
