Albert Einstein said, “The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He,to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed.”
Such are people who become leaders and create an impact in the progress of civilisation and edification of humanity. Today we see crises in the educational sector. Shattered dreams over the Z-score to graduates being churned out in their thousands, standing unemployed in queues. Today there might be in our educational institutions endless activity and experiments. All this brings knowledge of motion, but not of stillness. Stillness is needed for the mind to cross boundaries into frontiers unexplored. The realm of the mysterious is that realm, which is a treasure trove that can never be exhausted in revealing secrets.
We pursue knowledge, but have not discovered wisdom. Every human activity from parenting to politics reveals the stark nakedness of people’s endeavors. We try to build nations and societies, but see it crumbling around us. Society seems to be breaking up with every fresh attempt to prop it up. Where is the ‘Life’ every one seeks, but loses it in living?
The greatest discoveries were when every effort was exhausted and answers elusive. Gazing at our predicament, the mysterious world of the unknown drops that precious thought that we never knew existed. We have the power to change the world; but do we want to do so? We are called to create, through struggle, models of our families to birth of new civilizations. Most run businesses to make money. The experience of the mysterious however, calls for businesses and every human activity to solve problems; even in family. What was hidden, but now revealed is that we are using our creativity to make more money for self and not solve the problems around.
The mysterious calls on us to go beyond book learning. The need of the hour is to acquire professional skills. Leaving school or university, most wait for someone to give employment. Our main target had been to be a doctor, engineer or lawyer. Today’s world could be different from yesterdays. Maybe the present generation needs a change of mindset. The need is to think out of the box. Be innovative. Start one’s own enterprise in uplifting the society one lives in and solving the problems it faces.
Let’s gaze and wonder when day breaks and life awakens; when flowers open and fragrance wafts and nature has its fill and eco systems take their breath. When night allows moonbeams to dance their patterns under the watchful gaze of the mysterious.
