Jeewana Yathra an annual Mega Multi Service project was initiated in the year 2012, and is conducted as a combined effort of Leo Clubs from Leo District 306 A2 which exceeds a budget of 1 million reaching a 5000+ beneficiaries every year.
Leo Movement is the Official Youth Programme of the World’s Largest Service Organization, Lions Clubs International whilst Leo District 306 A2 is one of the most active Leo Districts in Leo Multiple 306, Sri Lanka.
The objective of this project is to reach out to the under privileged areas in the country each year and help out to enhance the lifestyles specially focusing on the school children.
Since 2012,Jeewana Yathra has reached different areas of the country looking for the opportunity to serve the less fortunate children who are deprived of a better education due to the poor conditions prevailing in certain areas of the country.
Jeewana Yathra ’19 which was held from 20th – 22nd October, 2019 consisted of 10 service projects based on the Ampara Educational Division covering the Ampara, Uhana and Damana Educational zones.
Jeewana Yathra ‘19 consisted of a series of projects which included exercise books and story book donations, O/L Seminars, Prefects’ Workshop, Vocational Training Workshop, Art Competitions for Primary School children, Drug Prevention Programme, Tree Planting Programme, Wheelchair, Spectacle and Computer Donation programme and a Medical camp. The project covered over 90 schools benefiting over 5000 individuals where at least one individual is exposed to one or more service projects conducted.
Among the series of projects conducted, Art Competition reaches a special attention as the competition was conducted in 11 schools for 1250 students where the winners from each Grade from 1-5 received a medal and a valuable gift pack which included stationary and essential items a school child needs.
Under the tree planting programme, 100 fruit plants were given to selected schools showing the attention given by the project towards promoting the solution to the leading social issue of deforestation.
This Mega Multi Service project was made a reality as a result of the contributions made by the Leos and Lions of Leo District 306 A2 and the donations received from all over the country. It is a blessing to have received the support of the Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Air Force for the project to reach the pinnacle of success.
