An old boy of Mahinda College in Galle where he took part in sports such as hockey, football and rugby at the university and after coming to Kandy became a sports promoter where he gave a big hand to the police and the people of Kandy. As a promoter his best days were spent with football, later becoming the President of the Sri Lanka Football through the Kandy league and he was the first to hold this position from the hill capital. Under his presidency, the Kandy League won the first ever inter league tournament by beating the Police. His main aim was to promote football in Kandy to the top and he did it.
