A Colombo court yesterday ordered the CID to probe a complaint alleging that a lady lawyer of the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court bar had attempted to influence the CID in the Korean Job scam case.
When the case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya Pilapitiya, CID Officer Wasala Wijeratne appearing for the prosecution informed the Magistrate that the lady lawyer had attempted to influence them within the court premises regarding the case.
Consequently the Magistrate ordered the CID to conduct investigations and to arrest her if the charge was proved.
Meanwhile, the Keselwatte Police is also investigating a complaint made against the lawyer over an alleged threat made by her to journalist Nimanthi Ranasinghe who had exposed the name of the lawyer when reporting the job scam.
CID IP S.K. Senaratne told the Magistrate that more complaints had been received by them regarding the scam. He said the CID was investigating those complaints and requested the Magistrate to further remand the suspects.
The Magistrate ordered that they be remanded till
October 30.
The CID had sought the Interpol intervention to arrest another suspect who had fled the country.The court had frozen the bank accounts of the suspects. The third suspect described as a web designer was released on Rs 500,000 personal bail with two sureties.
