A former water board official was sentenced to 37 years rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High Court today after finding him guilty over fraudulently acquiring Rs. 12 million using forged cheques.
Ananda Mabola, who worked as an accountant at the Water Board's regional office in Kelaniya, was earlier indicted by the prosecution under eight counts of the penal code for using forged signatures of the manager of the regional water board office to prepare fake cheques and withdraw money deceitfully.
High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga convicted him on all counts and imposed a fine of Rs. 4 million and a compensation of Rs. 13 million in addition to the RI sentence. In failing to pay the above, the court imposed another 23 years of imprisonment on the convict. (Shehan Chamika Silva)

These are the things that we can be so proud of as sri lankan's. 37 years in RI for 12M LKR. What about the politico's who stole billions ... two generations of their families deserve to be incarcerated.
