A wall of the Dutch era building that is situated within the Galle Fort collapsed last night.
The wall was part of the old post office and according to officials, no one was injured.
They said it could have caused a loss of lives had it collapsed during the daytime.
The building, constructed in the Dutch era, was in a dilapidated condition and the post office had been relocated elsewhere. (D.G. Sugathapala)

I am sure it caries a lot of memories and should be preserved.

The authorities are arguing for some time who should conserve the building and to whom it belongs etc. and see what happened? finally it is our heritage that are being neglected and as a result loosing. It is time that an authority be established to conserve these historic buildings without considering the ownership.

Please have the same empathy to the numerous archaeological sites bulldozered in north and east.

They are very "painful" memories, so let it dissolve and we start refresh!
