Amid speculation that President Maithripala Sirisena is attempting to strike a deal with a section of the United National Party (UNP) to secure his presidential candidacy, a senior minister said yesterday that it was the Working Committee which would decide on the candidate.

Senior UNPer and Public Enterprise Development Minister Lakshman Kiriella said his party was not the personal property of anyone.

The minister who is also the Leader of House said this when asked to comment on speculation that the President was planning to bring about a regime change once again with the backing of a group of UNPers.

Earlier, several UNP leaders spelled out that the party should nominate one of its members as the candidate instead of supporting a common candidate. (Kelum Bandara)

Now that makes me laugh. Yes, the UNP should not be the private property of anyone. The working committee is the private property of Ranil. Put is another way, a committee for Ranil, by Ranil, to Ranil. Good the backbenchers are giving you guys a push.

BROKEN PROMISES Saturday, 13 April 2019 09:49 AM

"President Maithripala Sirisena is attempting to strike a deal with a section of the United National Party (UNP)" - definity - or more so - strike a deal with the UNP itself. - And UNP is bound to agree ! - in such a case wonder what is promises will be , and which he is bound to break in the end.

If people believe the culture and religion always preached by cunning politicians will fulfill the 21st century needs, vote for any politicians but Ranil. If the people want to live as modern and well cultured citizens like in developed countries vote for Ranil

The UNP has not yet decided on its candidate while Gota has already started his campaign and nobody seems to understand that the ever loosing UNP is heading for disaster.
