While blaming the Health Ministry officials providing false picture about Covid-19 situation to the politicians, the Public Health Inspectors (PHI) Union yesterday warned of a considerable spike in Covid-19 cases in the coming weeks.
Speaking to Daily Mirror, Union's Chairman Upul Rohana said the Government did not heed to warnings when the PHIs urged the Government to restrict movement or lock-down high-risk areas during the festive season.
“Now, the situation has almost gone out of hand and it is the people who have to pay the price for that. There is no option other than ensuring individual safety,” he highlighted.
He also said the Covid-19 cases which were limited only to the Western Province by the latter part of the last year, could now be found in all the districts including Trincomalee, Galle, Matara, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kurunegala and Puttalam etc.
“There are also cases being reported in the country with no visible origin, which is a sign that Sri Lanka has reached the community transmission level,” he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Mr. Rohana stressed that officials in the Ministry of Health and other authorities related to health provided a false picture of the Covid-19 situation in the country to the politicians.
“That’s why, proper actions have not been taken at the correct time. These officials provide such false details due to the fear that they may lose their positions. However, it is their duty to alert the politicians about the actual Covid situation in the country,” he added. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

It is unfortunate that our leaders our regulated with cash in mind, not in the case of covid 19 only but in every espect of day to day life. Till our beautiful country runs down the gurgler.

Gota and the government should take full responsibility of this situation. When he wanted to get elected he controlled it and showed a false picture to the people. Sri Lankans who are such fools and idiots believed him as always. Now they pay the price.

Well there is nothing new in what they say . The false sense of positivity is sold to people by a regime that has failed miserably . Whether it is Covid or the economy they show that everything is rosy when it's rotting at the core .

All these criminals put their economic self-interest above the health of the population. It can therefore be assumed that these fellons have been secretly vaccinated for several weeks. Furthermore, it can be assumed that a human life is worthless for this nefarious gang, as they proved during and after the war.

This is not true. Testing is very important, so infected can be treated. But no one wants to get tested, because you will get locked up in a horrible quarantaine centre

This news article sounds as though the politicians did not know. How come? The head of the Health Ministry is a government Minister, and they have regular cabinet meetings. What do they talk during that time.., all praises on His Excellency the President, or what? What a shameful situation we are in; the government pretending to be ignorant of the extent of the Pandemic.

From the onset if COVID-19, the Ministry of Health has been painting a rosy picture of the pandemic giving scant disregsrd to requests from officials at the bottom to contain it with a view to becoming self-made heroes and a heroine.
