The Jaffna High Court today dismissed four petitions filed in the court seeking a writ order to prevent Police and the health authorities over attempts to stop Mahaviru commemoration in the Northern Province.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that the petitioners informed Court that commemoration ceremonies are to be held in the Northern Province from 25th to 27th November. They requested the Court to issue an order preventing authorities from stopping those ceremonies.
He said additional Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena, Deputy Solicitor General Haripriya Jayasundara and Senior State Counsel Shahida Bari appeared on behalf of the respondents.
“The Court accepted the argument made by the State and the provisions of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution were discussed. The Court rejected the petitions and therefore the Police will take preventive action against unlawful assembly and commemorating LTTE cadres,” he said.

Grieving is a human need. Also needed for much talked about but not acted upon reconciliation, both at personal levels as well as collective.

Anyone arrested for venerating terrorists, or their organisations are traitors to Sri Lanka, and need rehabilitation. Pity we don't have our own Guantanamo Bay!

Ever wondered what would happen if the 13th amendment was fulfilled? LTTE resurgence for sure!

There is no difference between remembering soldiers who died during war and remembering LTTE who died during the war. Therefore, there shouldn't be any discriminiations.

Did the law of the land prevent the commemorations of JVP terrorists?
