The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) yesterday handed over its set of twenty proposals to SLPP presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Opposition Leader’s official residence in Wijerama.

GMOA Assistant Secretary Dr. Naveen de Soyza told Daily Mirror that they would hand over the proposals to other presidential candidates as well and added that the proposals were based on sustainable development.

Their proposals were as follows:

  • To appoint eligible cabinet ministers to each ministry especially to health, education and environment ministries, which are fundamental fields of sustainable development.
  • To declare a National Import Policy to limit unnecessary goods flowing into the country
  • To declare a set of policies and favourable tax policies to prevent professionals from leaving the country.
  • To prepare a scientific methodology so that decisions related to the health sector can be taken effectively.
  • To create a sensible programme to curb non-communicable diseases
  • To gazette the minimum standards for medical education
  • To prepare facilities to certify the quality of the medical drugs.
  • To review all the cabinet papers that were passed at the cost of the health sector. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

How is the money to be found by a government which is in heavy budget deficit and controlled by the IMF which will not allow any new or increased expenditure without accompanying taxation. High time these politicians stopped talking economic nonsense. Please send them to the university to learn economics of public finances.

Professionals in the developed countries are not entitled for special tax concessions. Those who want to leave country because of tax will realise soon that they have to pay bigger percentage from their remuneration as tax.
