There is fresh move to clear 200 acres in Wanathawilluwa and hand it over to a private company, Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa alleged today.
Mr. Premadasa who raised a question under standing order 27(2) in Parliament yesterday said acts such as this and the clearing of two acres in Anavilundawa in Puttalam is a violation of section 27(4) of the constitution.
"The clearing of Anavilundawa sanctuary is also a violation of Wildlife Flora and Fauna Act " Mr. Premadasa said.
Also he said there is an allegation that taking legal action against the person responsible for the clearing of two acres at Anavilundawa is delayed, as he is a relative of a politician.
Mr. Premadasa therefore questioned on the current position with regard to taking of legal action and to present the report of the five member Committee which looked into the matter.
Minister of Wildlife C. B. Ratnayake said the said 200 acre land belongs to a cement factory in the area. He said part of this land has been given on a sub lease. "Government will not hesitate to take action against any wrongdoer who had engaged in clearing Anavilundawa sanctuary".
He said the Anavilundawa issue had already been referred to courts. Also he tabled the report of the 5-member Committee that probed the issue. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

Thank you Sajith for bringing up this in the Parliament. President is a wise man having lived and exposed to the conservation effects in the US, should lead the fight against DE-FORESTATIONS.

Can you define what you mean when you say the government will not hesitate. The excuse is that its not state land. Continue to lie to the people
