The SLFP expects to request the government to incorporate the amendments to be proposed by the expert committee in the 20A during the committee stage of the debate in Parliament, senior advisor to the party and former acting chief of the SLFP, Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa said.
“At the first glance of the 20A draft, we found that there are a number of provisions that require further scrutiny and revisit. Some members of the Politburo also raised concern on these sections of the Amendment and that was why this expert committee analysis,” Prof. Piyadasa told the Daily Mirror.
The expert committee to be appointed in the next few days by Party chief Sirisena, will comprise of SLFP Parliamentarians and non-political professionals, he added.
Prof. Piyadasa also said the reorganisation of the SLFP and the preparation for the forthcoming Provincial Council election was also discussed in detail at the Politburo.
