President Maithripala Sirsiena Sirisena has once again registered his protest to Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam over the plan to distribute free electronic tablets among schoolchildren.

The government has decided to spend Rs.2,275 million for this project but however, the President was of the view that a pilot project should be carried out first.

At yesterday’s Cabinet meeting, he had asked why the minister was going ahead with the project despite his call to first carry out a pilot project and requested for more time to give his observation on this project.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne had expressed support of the project mooted by the Education Minister, who hopes to distribute nearly 189,000 tablets. (Kelum Bandara)

Though I do not agree with Presidets recent moves, a pilot project is a must in any initiative of this nature.

Before distributing tablets, please ensure that all schools are not crumbling/ safe for pupils to attend. Reference to school in Trinco! Let's get the basics right first!!

President got to learn a lot about modern world and advance way of education. President's protest over distribution of free tablets to school children, clearly shows that he has never used a tablet in his life.

The 20,000 imported cattle proved useless. It would have been prevented if there was a pilot project beforehand.

Our country will never make progress for as long as this fool remains the President. He is an unbearable burden on our country.

@Dilshan; Quite correct. Most schools don't have furniture and safe buildings.
