Top seed Sharmal Dissanayake clinched the Men’s Open Singles title at the Clay court Tennis Nationals with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over the defending champion Dineshkanthan Thangarajah in the final worked off at the SLTA Courts in Green Path, Colombo yesterday.
Sharmal who came in as the hot favourite to lift the title, had little difficulty in brushing off the challenge and was too good for his opponent.
Meanwhile, the defending champion Heshani Imanga Thalagahage of Gateway College, Negombo clinched the Under-14 Girls’ Singles title with a comfortable 6-2, 6-1 win against Hasali Gajabi in the final.
In addition, Royalist Thehan Wijemanne retained the Under-16 Boys’ Singles title with an easy 6-4, 7-6 victory over Nelaka Dissanayake in the final.

Girls’ Under-14 Singles – Heshani Imanga Thalagahage beat Hasali Gajaba 6-2, 6-1.
Boys’ Under-16 Singles – Thehan Wijemanne beat Nelaka Dissanayake 6-4, 7-6.
Men’s Open Singles – Sharmal Dissanayake beat Dineshkanthan Thangarajah 6-4, 6-2.
