Three Green party heavyweights have decided to retire from politics come the next general poll which is only a few months away. The trio represents the Gampaha, Kurunegala and Matara districts.

Two of them have been serving as Diyawanna members from the late seventies and one of them boasts of a continuous 42-year- Diyawanna career and several other records. The other is a former top team member and a chief purohita who often goes on pilgrimage to Somawathi Vehera in the East.

The Matara stalwart who held a key portfolio under Yahapalanaya has gone into silent mode following the big ho-ha triggered by a public statement that he made which drew severe flak from a section of Buddhist monks. He is said to have planned to take up residence in a Latin American country after saying adieu to politics.
