Three persons died after being electrocuted by an illegally put up electric cable at Thalahagama in Akuressa yesterday morning, police said. The deceased were named as Gamage Amara aged 45, Wickramage Chandradasa aged 56 and Madarasinghege David aged 76, who are residents of Thalahagama.
Further investigations are being carried out by the police.
This comes in the wake of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) issuing a statement on Wednesday (5) that death by electrocution had reduced by 50 per cent to 89 in 2018 compared with the number of fatalities reported in 2012, which was 180.
