The Ministry of Health has issued strict guidelines to the Sri Lanka Navy to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that a four-member expert committee had investigated the spread of the coronavirus at the Welisara Navy camp.
Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that following the investigations, he has issued guidelines to the Navy to be strictly followed. He said that it was found some Naval officers attached to the Welisara Navy camp had been sent to various quarantine centres.
Dr. Jasinghe said that some of those Navy officers had then spread the virus to others at those quarantine centres.
He said that the guidelines he has now issued, will apply to Navy officers from this camp who are at various locations, including those at military barracks.
Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that implementation of the guidelines is being monitored by health officials. He also urged the Navy health unit to ensure the guidelines are followed to contain the spread of the virus among the sailors.
