President of the Christian Reformed Church (CRC) of Sri Lanka, Rev. Roshan Mendis, says the arson attack on the MTV/MBC network was a dastardly act and should be roundly condemned by all right thinking people in Sri Lanka. “The government should make every effort to find the perpetrators of this heinous act and bring them to justice and set a precedent of fairplay, sending a stern warning to all those who aim to bring disrepute to the government to beware”, he said.He pointed out that, hot on the heels of this attack, the brutal slaying of Lasantha Wickremathunge also shocked and angered the nation. “Lasantha, the Editor-In-Chief of the controversial Sunday Leader newspaper, was also a lawyer and an experienced investigative writer. He expressed his views without fear and as a result had to pay the ultimate price.”
“All those in power, who are vested with the authority to preserve the tenets of democracy in Sri Lanka, should act now to put a stop to this spate of killings and intimidation and restore the confidence of the public in the government and law and order,” he added.
