Telecommunications and Information Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya in a letter to Police Chief N.K Illangakone has denied his involvement in the recent robbery at the National Museum.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) said they had not found any information to prove the Cabinet Minister’s involvement in this regard.  “There were media reports that Minster Siyambalapitiya was involved in the robbery but the Minister had clarified the matter and informed the IGP about such media reports and that they were baseless allegations,” a CID official said.

The official also said the CID had not found any information linking Minister Siyambalapitiya to the robbery.

Meanwhile, police said not a single suspect had been arrested so far by the CID which is conducting further investigations into the incident which took place on March 15. (Supun Dias)

If Siyambalapitiya is so concerned about his prestige he should evaluate why such a gossip started in the first place.
